Proper handling is critical for cut lilac flowers.
Immediately upon receipt remove the bunches from the package and recut the stems at a steep angle. After this initial cut, make another cut lengthwise about 1” long down the center of the stem. DO NOT hammer stems. Place each bunch into a floral rehydrating solution, and then into the cooler. If any stems still look wilted after an hour or so, the cutting process should be repeated.
Keep these hydrated bunches in your cooler, and change the water every other day. When changing water, recut stems at a steep angle. and make new lengthwise cuts down the middle of the stem. Lilac can be cold stored in water for up to 5 days.
Vase life once out of the cooler is 3 - 5 days.
