Lemon Chiffon – 30 Roots
Rare Yellow Color at the Beginning of Peony Season
Lemon Chiffon combines two things that are difficult to find in a commercial peony: exceptional yellow color and an early harvest window.
One of the earliest peonies we harvest at Mountain Flower Farm, Lemon Chiffon produces luminous soft lemon-yellow flowers on strong, upright stems. Young plants often begin with more open, semi-double flowers; as established plants mature, the blooms become increasingly full and can develop the lush double form for which Lemon Chiffon is prized.
For a commercial cut-flower grower, that combination is exceptionally useful.
Lemon Chiffon doesn't just add another color to your peony field. It helps open your peony season with a color few other varieties can provide.
An Early Peony With a Commercial Purpose
Harvest timing matters.
An early variety gives growers an opportunity to begin supplying peonies before the main flush of traditional cultivars arrives. That can extend the number of weeks your peony acreage is generating revenue while giving established florist and wholesale customers a reason to begin buying from you earlier.
Lemon Chiffon makes that early position particularly valuable because the flowers are so distinctive.
Instead of opening the season with another pink or red, you can offer buyers a rare, soft yellow peony with an entirely different visual character.
Exceptional Color on a Serious Cut-Flower Plant
Novelty alone isn't enough reason to dedicate valuable field space to a peony.
Lemon Chiffon backs up its unusual color with the characteristics a commercial grower needs: vigorous plants, strong stems, substantial flowers and an upright growth habit.
That distinction matters.
Many unusual peonies are primarily collector plants. Lemon Chiffon combines rarity with genuine cut-flower potential, which is why it has earned a place in commercial peony production around the world.
Its exceptional flower quality has also been recognized at the highest level, including American Peony Society Grand Champion honors.
Give Your Buyers a Color They Can't Easily Substitute
One of the great advantages of growing specialty peonies is being able to offer something that isn't interchangeable with what every other farm has in abundance.
Lemon Chiffon does exactly that.
Its pale lemon-yellow flowers introduce an entirely different color family into a peony program. They work beautifully with white, cream, blush, peach and other soft garden tones, while giving florists and designers possibilities that conventional pink and white peonies simply can't provide.
For growers selling directly to florists, designers, specialty wholesalers or farmers-market customers, that scarcity has real value.
When a buyer wants a beautiful pink peony, there may be several substitutes.
When they want an early yellow peony like Lemon Chiffon, there are far fewer.
A Variety That Gets Better With Maturity
Lemon Chiffon is particularly rewarding as a long-term commercial planting.
Young plants can produce more open, semi-double flowers. As well-grown plants mature, the blooms can develop substantially greater petal count and the impressive full form associated with mature Lemon Chiffon plants.
You're not planting Lemon Chiffon for a single season. You're establishing a perennial specialty crop that becomes increasingly impressive as the block matures.
Why Plant 30?
A few Lemon Chiffon plants give you an unusual yellow peony.
A 30-root block gives you an early yellow peony crop.
At commercial scale, Lemon Chiffon becomes something you can photograph, promote by name and intentionally offer to customers at the beginning of your peony harvest rather than allowing a handful of rare stems to disappear into mixed inventory.
For established growers, it can broaden both the color palette and harvest window of an existing peony program. For newer farms, it can become one of the varieties that distinguishes your offering from the beginning.
Peony acreage is valuable. Some of it should produce dependable standards.
Some of it should extend your season and produce flowers your customers can't easily get somewhere else. Lemon Chiffon can do both.
